THE ESSENTIAL INGREDIENT
Exciting news for Sydney food-lovers: The Essential Ingredient has returned to Crows Nest with its stunning new store now open at 118 Willoughby Road.
Showcasing a huge range of specialty foods crafted by celebrated producers in Australia and around the world, an incredible selection of professional cookware, chef-level knives, kitchen gadgets, tableware and culinary books, this slick store celebrates everything that’s joyful about food.
The Essential Ingredient built a loyal following with its Pacific Highway store from 2005 to 2010
“We’re thrilled that our new Sydney store is right in the heart of such a vibrant community with a real passion for food,” says Director and Crows Nest local Peter Walmsley. “Though we haven’t had a store here for some time, we’re often asked when we’ll return. We’re so excited for the local community – and all of Sydney – to discover all the delicious surprises we have in store.
“We’ve lived in Crows Nest for 14 years, so we’re particularly excited to be making what we hope will be a valuable contribution to our community.”
The Essential Ingredient Crows Nest is open now at Shop 3, 118 Willoughby Road. More information can be found at essentialingredient.com.au, or by contacting Julie Walmsley via the details below.

WORDS
FROM THE
MAYOR
North Sydney Mayor, Zoe Baker
Crows Nest Mainstreet exemplifies the very best of community spirit. It was founded at a time when local shopping centres were under threat from shopping malls, that were growing in both number and size.
It was nurtured by the vision of local businesses, who recognised the need to work together to protect not only their businesses but the shopping centre they loved. And it has been sustained over decades by businesses, residents and North Sydney Council who all recognised the importance of a village centre for community connection.
The winds of change are blowing again for Crows Nest and this time the change is on our doorstep. The opening of the Metro will improve transport connections, but at a cost of increased development and population density to the area. The challenge for Mainstreet — and North Sydney Council — will be to embrace the vibrancy while protecting the essential character of the village.
Crows Nest offers an excellent mix of essential shops, specialty stores, cafes, bars, restaurants and community facilities. Council has actively supported the village by investing $20m in a walkway and park on Hume Lane so that there are better pedestrian links and more green space. Our next project is to upgrade the footpath and outdoor dining areas on Willoughby Road.
I am confident that as Mainstreet, Council and residents work together, Crows Nest will continue to set the standard for a vibrant and viable village and go from strength to strength.
Mayor Zoë Baker
